Surfboard FAQs

What makes Gordon & Smith surfboards special?

Gordon & Smith is one of the most iconic names in surfboard shaping - Larry Gordon and Floyd Smith started making boards together in the mid-1950s and built a brand with worldwide recognition. G&S is now exclusively part of the Golden Breed family in Australia. When you're riding a G&S, you're riding 70 years of shaping heritage.

Can I buy a G&S surfboard online?

Our surfboards are available for in-store pickup at our Noosa Heads and Byron Bay locations. Because every board is a premium product, we prefer to get it into your hands personally so you can check it over and we can make sure you're stoked. Contact us to check availability and we'll hold one for you.

Can you ship a surfboard to me?

Surfboards require specialist freight due to their size and fragility - standard couriers won't cut it. We can connect you with our trusted surf freight partners who know how to get a board to your door safely. Get in touch and we'll sort out the best shipping option for your location.

How do I know which board is right for me?

Give us a call or drop into one of our stores - our team can talk you through the range based on your experience level, the waves you're riding, and what you're looking for. Whether you're a longboard cruiser or looking for something with a bit more performance, the G&S range covers a wide spread of shapes and sizes.

Are Gordon & Smith boards made in Australia?

G&S boards available through Golden Breed are shaped and finished by experienced craftsmen. Each board carries the same commitment to quality that Larry Gordon and Floyd Smith built their reputation on. These aren't mass-produced pop-outs - they're proper surfboards made with proper care.

Do you offer surfboard hire?

Yes - we offer board hire at our Noosa Heads and Byron Bay stores. It's a great way to get in the water if you're visiting, or to try a different style of board before committing to a purchase. Check our Noosa Board Hire and Byron Bay Board Hire pages for details.

What's the history behind Gordon & Smith?

Larry Gordon and Floyd Smith started surfing and shaping together in California in the mid-1950s. They built G&S into one of the most respected surf and skate brands in the world. Floyd brought the brand to Australia in 1965, and it was run by the Wilson family for decades before Golden Breed acquired the Australian trademark in 2015. Two legendary surf brands, one family.

Why do some styles sell out so fast?

Honestly? Because we don't overproduce. When you see something you love - our Floyd, ringer tees, bucket hats - they go quick because we make limited runs of quality pieces rather than flooding the market with endless inventory. We restock our cult classics regularly, but if you're eyeing something, don't sleep on it. That's not a sales pitch, that's just how it goes when you're not mass-producing throwaway fashion.
