Surfboards FAQs

What surfboards does Golden Breed sell?
Golden Breed sells a range of surfboards spanning its own Golden Breed boards and the handmade Gordon & Smith (G&S) range, from smooth-riding longboards to versatile mid-lengths and performance twin-fins. Golden Breed's own line includes boards like the Free Styler longboard and Hi Liner mid-length, alongside classic G&S shapes such as the Nosemaster, Perfecto and Easy Rider. Lengths run from around 6'4" up to 9'8", so there's something for most surfers and conditions.
Can I hire a surfboard from Golden Breed in Noosa or Byron Bay?
Golden Breed offers surfboard hire at both its Noosa Heads and Byron Bay stores, so you can grab a board for a session or take a shape for a test run before you buy. It's a great way to try a longboard, mid-length or twin and find what suits you and the waves. You can find the details on the Noosa board hire and Byron Bay board hire pages.
What's the difference between a longboard, a mid-length and a shortboard?
A longboard (around 9 feet and over) offers the most stability, paddle power and easy wave-catching, making it the classic choice for gliding and noseriding; a mid-length (roughly 7 to 8 feet) balances that stability with more manoeuvrability; and a shortboard or performance board (around 6 feet) is the most responsive and best suited to experienced surfers in punchier waves. Golden Breed's range covers all three, so the right one depends on your ability and the waves you ride.
Which surfboard is best for beginners?
Beginners generally find a longer, more stable board easiest to learn on, because the extra length and volume make paddling and catching waves more forgiving — longboards and user-friendly shapes like the Easy Rider and Free Styler suit this well. The ideal board still depends on your height, weight, fitness and local waves. The Golden Breed crew in-store can give you personalised advice, and hiring a board first at Noosa or Byron Bay is a great low-commitment way to find your feet.
Can I try a surfboard before I buy?
You can try a board before buying through Golden Breed's surfboard hire at the Noosa Heads and Byron Bay stores. Hiring is a great low-commitment way to feel how a longboard, mid-length or twin rides before you commit to buying one. The in-store crew can also talk you through which shape suits you.
How is delivery handled?
Freight is not included in the board price: you can pick up from the Noosa Heads store, or if you're interstate, Golden Breed can connect you with a specialist surfboard transport company to arrange delivery directly. It's worth factoring transport into your budget when buying a board.
Does Golden Breed offer Free Delivery?

Yes. Golden Breed offers free standard delivery on Australian orders over $120. For international orders, shipping options, delivery costs and available delivery methods are shown at checkout before you place your order.
