How To Wax Your Surfboard

Got questions? We got answers! whether it's a question about a wax comb, a leash, fins or a brand new G&S surfboard, our team is here to help. We'll list our frequently asked questions here.
How come I can't find the products you have in store, online?
Great question. Let's take surf wax for example... Australia gets hot, damn hot in some parts and often freight that stuff around backfires on us. It's best to grab some of these items, in store.
I'm a beginner surfer. What surf hardware do I need?
To kit yourself out, you'll need a couple of good quality blocks of wax, including a base coat. Check the temperature guide to make sure you're buying the right type. Check out our video at the bottom of this page how to apply and you have plenty of grip. Next you'll need a leash. People that surf without a leggy when beginning are a major hazard. Grab one and keep everyone safe in the water. If you're racking up, grab some good surf tie-downs with rubber protection so the ratchet doesn't damage your board. It's smart to buy a key lock box, so you're not leaving your car keys on the beach, or in your wheel cubby hole for someone to find.
Other than that, if you're learning on a shorter board, you might want to consider a tail pad. Come in store and our surf gear specialists will talk you through the options.
What should I look for when buying a surfboard online?
When you’re looking to buy a surfboard online, it’s important to consider your skill level, the type of waves you’ll be riding, and, let’s be honest, the colours you're gonna vibe. It's always important to check out the brand, materials, and reviews and all boards that Golden Breed keeps in stock are on-point. Make sure it’s got the right fin setup, and don’t forget to add wax, but more importantly, a leash to your cart to avoid a “lost board” or other angry surfers sin the water.
Do you have products in-store that aren't shown as accessories online?
Yes, we have a diverse range of surf accessories, such as surfboard wax, straps, repair kits, leggies and traction pads in-store. They're not included within our "free shipping orders" policy. Our surf gear online usually only features our core range, and it's sometimes not viable to ship certain products, so drop in and check out our range in-person.
Do you stock FCS & FCSII fins?
We do in our surf stores, yes.
Does Golden Breed sell wetsuits?
We don't. There are plenty of good brands out there, such as Oneill Rip Curl and more. If you want advice, come and see our team, who can point you in the right direction with an unbiased opinion.
What accessories should every surfer should have?
You’ll want a wetsuit, depending on what part of Australia you're in, but even in Noosa Heads, mid-winter warrants one that's at least a 2/3. A decent leg rope to keep your board attached, plenty of surf wax, rail to rail, and a tail pad if you're getting salty with a short board. Don’t forget sunscreen, surf racks and a pull over towel robe so getting changed in the carpark doesn'd result in an indecent exposure charge ;)
